We are a group of concerned citizens—just like you.
We come from all parts of this community, and we reflect it in all its diversity. We organized Rebuild Government to make sure the new charter being written by the Memphis and Shelby County Charter Commission is what the citizens of this community want. We are concerned about our community's problems and we are convinced that talking about improving our government is the right conversation at the right time.
The Charter Commission began with a blank slate, and that's why we are engaging in a countywide conversation about what a new government can be – how it can increase efficiency and end duplication; how it can create more ethical government; how it can jump start our economy; how it can make our neighborhoods safer; how it can save money; how it can eliminate red tape and bureaucracy, and most of all, how a new government can work for everybody in every part of our community.
We are pleased that Mayor A C Wharton and Sheriff Mark Luttrell support this conversation, and we are doing everything possible to live up to their confidence by supporting a program that makes sure everybody in every part of our community the public's voice is considered in the decisions of the Charter Commission.
That's why we are organizing meetings in homes, coffee shops, companies, and neighborhoods throughout our community. We're also blogging, posting research, keeping you up-to-date on what the Charter Commission is doing on our Facebook page, but most of all, we'll be talking with you so we can keep the Commission informed of your opinions and suggestions.
